Nicholas Baker was the son of John Baker and Margery (Madistard) Baker.[1] Based on his estimated date of marriage, he was probably born about 1560. Since the family seat appears to have been in Oldswinford/Stourbridge, Worcestershire, Nicholas was probably born there.
Marriage and Children
Nicholas married Mary Hodgetts.[1] Their date and place of marriage are uncertain. Based on the estimated date of birth of their first child, they were probably married about 1585. Based on their residency at Kings Norton, Worcestershire and Oldswinford, Worcestershire, they were probably married in the general area of those towns.
Based on the vital records of their children, Nicholas and Mary originally settled in King's Norton, Worcestershire and then about 1602 moved to Oldswinford, Worcestershire.
Nicholas and Mary had the following children:
Joseph Baker, b. say 1586,[2] never married,[1] d. of the sickness,[1] bur. 23 May 1607 at St. Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire[3][4]
Nicholas Baker, bpt. 6 October 1588 at St. Nicholas, King's Norton, Worcestershire,[5][6] m. 20 January 1612/3 Dorethea Pemberton in Birmingham,[7][6][1] bur. 4 January 1617/8 at St. Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire[8][6]
Margery Baker, b. say 1589,[9] m. about 1609[10] Thomas Nash of Bewdley, Worcestershire[1] d. 11 February 1655/6 in New Haven, New England[9]
William Baker, bpt. 7 November 1590 at St. Nicholas, King's Norton, Worcestershire,[11] presumably died young
Elizabeth Baker, bpt. 18 April 1593 at St. Nicholas, King's Norton, Worcestershire,[12][13] m. 27 May 1609 Edward Doolittle of Kidderminster at St. Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire,[14][13][1] d. bur. 23 October 1636 at Kidderminster, Worcestershire[13]

Judith Baker, b. say 1600,[18] never married,[1] d. of the sickness,[1] bur. 7 May 1607 at St. Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire[19]
John Baker, b. say 1602,[20] m. 7 June 1624 Elizabeth Mosely (daughter of Edward Mosely) at Oldswinford,[21][22][1] d. 24 March 1669/70[1] in Stourbridge, Worcestershire,[22] bur. 25 March 1669/70 at St Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire[23]
Death
Nicholas Baker of Stourbridge, Worcestershire made his will on 29 April 1604. The will mentions wife Mary, daughters Margery, Elizabeth and Judith (third daughter), sons Joseph (eldest son), Nicholas and John (third son), and his mother Margery Baker.[24]
Nicholas was buried at St. Mary, Oldswinford, Worcestershire on 6 May 1604.[25]
Nicholas' pedigree in the 1844 County Genealogies, Pedigrees of Hertfordshire Families has "ob:14 Nov:1632" below his name, which suggests that Nicholas died in 1632. However, given the evidence of Nicholas' will, it appears that this date was not the date of Nicholas' death but that of his wife, Mary, whose findagrave profile states died on that date.[26]

Looking at Find a Grave website there is a memorial no.218802625 for Nicholas Baker. On his page has his will attached dated May 6, 1604. From comparing this page and the memorial it looks like the same person. Also, says he is buried at St. Mary's Churchyard, Oldswinford, Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, West Midlands, England. This is the same place where his daughter Elizabeth was married and buried from her memorial.
More likely same wife, but because Mary's paternal ancestors' names are plural, perhaps her Hodgett name should be changed to Hodgetts, and merge the two. Or maybe Old Nick liked the name and married two different women with same name! :>) just kidding
Baker-3310 and Baker-9748 appear to represent the same person because: same people - see "Husband of Mary Hodgett married [date unknown] [location unknown]" - does not add any new info, gets rid of extra Nicholas Baker
Baker-3310 and Baker-8795 appear to represent the same person because: see "Husband of Mary Hodgett married [date unknown] [location unknown]" - adds no new info, gets rid of extra Nicholas Baker
Extracted in the Nash Family book, p. 267, but note two of this Nicholas's children, John (2nd) and Elizabeth (Doolittle) are omitted.
Thank You!
