Caleb Baker II served with 1st Virginia Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Biography

Caleb was born in 1734. Caleb Baker ... He passed away in 1824.

Caleb Baker II, Esq. He was born in Lancaster County, PA in 1734 and died the tenth day of March 1824. His place of residence during the Revolution was Prince Edward County. He was the son of Caleb-(1690-1755) and Martha Baker-( -1759). The first Caleb Baker was the son of Robert James Baker (1660-1728) and Susan Packer (1664-1728) were the parents. His parents were John Baker (1630-1693) and Frances Stephenson.

The first Caleb Baker was b.1690 "of Amelia County, VA" according to his will written the 24th Nov 1750 in Prince Edward county, Virginia and probated 29th April 1755 {was also probated in Prince Edward County, Va - Wills 1754-1784, p.3} He owned land along Spring Creek in Amelia. He often spelled his name "Beaker." Caleb I was granted two hundred acres of land on May 18th 1734 in that part of Chester, Penn. which was made into Lancaster Co. [Penn archives, sixth series, Vol. XIV, pg. 266.] before removing to Amelia VA. At the time of his death Caleb Baker I owned 1070 acres of land and his dwelling place he left to his son, Caleb Baker II. The first Caleb and Martha had these sons; Samuel Beaker, Henry Beaker, Abraham Beaker, Caleb Beaker, jr; and these daughters ; Ruth Beaker, Johnston; Martha Beaker, Ewing; Easter Beaker, Walles.

Caleb II was a Revolutionary War soldier, serving in the 1st Virginia Regiment. He was married to Catherine Hodnutt, the daughter of John Hodnutt, sometimes spelled Hadnett. Hodnutt was born in Ireland and died in Buckingham County, VA in 1799. Caleb and Catherine Baker reared ten children on the Caleb Baker II, Esq. 7) Sarah "Sally" Baker b. 4 Jan 1779 married Arthur Jones, son of John Jones and Elizabeth Walker of Buckingham, VA. Sally and Arthur Jones settled near Tuscumbia, AL. Sally died in Alabama in 1828 and Arthur in 1836. They had at least 4 known children - some of who went into Fayette Co, TN. (John Walker Jones and Wiley Baker Jones)
8) Patsy Baker married Mr. Greenwood
9) Catherine Baker married Mr. Hendrick
10) Caleb Baker Jr. married Jane Thomson

According to the North American Book of the Charter Members of the DAR & North American, Families Histories. Caleb was a Patriot of the highest order, doing all he could for the cause of Independence. His father was born in England; died in Virginia. [1]
