Biography

Mary Baker married Henry Turner in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia, on 6 January 1708/9.[1] She may have been the widow of James Baker or a daughter of John Baker who paid quit rents on 130 acres in New Kent County in 1704. Henry Turner held 250 acres in New Kent County in 1704.

Henry and Mary had two children before leaving St. Peter's Parish. In 1731, Turner got a patent to 300 acres on Genito Creek in Goochland County, Virginia.

Mary, was still living when Henry Turner made his will in Goochland County that identified six children (will dated 14 Feb. 1734/5, recorded 20 May 1735).

Mary was buried on 29 March 1766 in Goochland County, Virginia.

1. Anne Turner [1778.T1.1] (1709) was baptized 4 March 1709/10.[2] She married Welcome William Hodges who gave 100 acres on the north side of the James River each to his brothers-in-law, James and Henry Turner, in 1735. She was then Anne Hodges when her father made his will. Hodges left a will in Goochland County naming three sons, three daughters, and his wife, Ann (will dated 28 Dec. 1771, recorded 17 Aug.1772). They had the following children: - Benjamin Hodges [1778.T1.1.1]. - William Hodges [1778.T1.1.2]. - Jesse Hodges [1778.T1.1.3]. - Ursula Hodges [1778.T1.1.4]. - Ann Hodges [1778.T1.1.5]. - Susanna Hodges [1778.T1.1.6]. - Sarah Hodges [1778.T1.1.7], not named in her father's will, who married James Kennedy in Goochland County on 11 January (bond) 1763.

2. John Turner [1778.T1.2] (10 July 1714 ).[3]

3. James Turner [1778.T1.3] was a sergeant in the French and Indian War.

4. Henry Turner [1778.T1.4] left a will in Goochland County speaking of his mother, without naming her, letting his sister Sarah live on his land until she married, and naming two sons (will dated 6 Jan. 1759, recorded 20 May 1760). These sons were Pleasant Turner [1778.T1.4.1], who married first Agnes Woodson 11 October(bond) 1781, and second, Polly Carrell 21 February (bond) 1799. And John Turner [1778.T1.4.2].

5. Sarah Turner [1778.T1.5] married John Watkins in Goochland County on 3 January (bond) 1763. Welcome William Hodges certified her age.

6. Barclay Turner [1778.T1.6].

7. Charles Turner [1778.T1.7] (25 Jan. 1712/3 ), son of Henry Turner, was born in St. Peter's Parish. He did not appear in his father's will.[4]

Baker-18253 and Baker-823 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these two profiles represent the same individual because same husband, same approximate date of death.
