Monroe Young Balch was born on May 7, 1827, in Coles County, Illinois. His father was Amos P. Balch and his mother was Mary Sawyer. Monroe married Narcissa Jane McCord on October 9, 1849, in Coles County, Illinois. Monroe Balch passed away March 11, 1863, in Moscow, Tennessee, at the age of 35.[1]
