Biography

James Muir Bald was born on 22 December 1847 in Prestonkirk, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, son of Joseph Bauld (1808 - ) and Margaret Muir (~1812 - 1870)[1].

His siblings were:

  1. William Alexander Bald (~1841 - 1900)
  2. Janet Carmichael (Bald) McGilp (1842 - 1886)
  3. Catherine Constable Bald (1843 - )
  4. Margaret Muir Bald (1845 - )
  5. John Bald (1851 - )

In the 1851 Scotland Census James is said to be 3 years old and residing with his parents and siblings at No5 Duncanlaw, Yester, Haddingtonshire[2].

James along with his parents and siblings emmigrated to Tasmania. The family arrived on 21 July 1857 at Launceston, Tasmania aboard the Forest Monarch[3].

James married Margaret (MacGrigor) Bald (1847 - ) the daughter of Simon McGregor and Margaret Senton on 29 June 1876 at Morven, Tasmania[4].

In 1887 James was living in Scotsdale, Tasmania[5].

James died in 1903 at Ringarooma, Tasmania[6].
