James Muir Bald was born on 22 December 1847 in Prestonkirk, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, son of Joseph Bauld (1808 - ) and Margaret Muir (~1812 - 1870)^[1].

James married Margaret (MacGrigor) Bald (1847 - ) the daughter of Simon McGregor and Margaret Senton on 29 June 1876 at Morven, Tasmania^[4].

In 1887 James was living in Scotsdale, Tasmania^[5].

James died in 1903 at Ringarooma, Tasmania^[6].
