Biography

Barnabus Baldwin was born about 1665 and baptized on 14 October 1665, in Milford, Connecticut. He died August 22, 1741[1] at Woodbridge, New Haven County, Connecticut, aged 75 years. His Cemetery "Inscription reads 'Here lyes ye body of Mr Barnabus Baldwin aged 76 Years; departed this life August ye 22nd 1741'. Born in Milford on 1670 to Richard Baldwin and Elizabeth Alsop. Barnabas married Sarah Buckingham (1665-1692) and they had 2 children. Barnabas next married Mary Botsford (1675-1711) and they had 5 children. He passed away on 1741 in West Part Woodbridge, Connecticut, USA.[2] He was buried at Milford Side Cemetery Woodbridge New Haven County Connecticut, USA.[3]

Barnabus was the youngest child of Richard Baldwin and Elizabeth Alsop. He was omitted from his father's will as he was born after his father had died.[4]. At a later time his siblings deeded to him "one-half of Hogg Meadow, because he did not receive an inheritance from his father in 1665. Hogg meadow had been a gift to his father, Richard Baldwin, from Tantannomy, an Indian."[3]

He married first Sarah Buckingham who died before 1692, date of her father's will, wherein he remembers the husband, and oldest and youngest children (Thomas Baldwin and Barnabas, Baldwin Jr) of his deceased daughter.[5] . His second wife was Mary Botsford, in which they married before Jan 1 1698/9, he and Mary, his wife are received to full communion in Milford church, that day, and his first four children are baptized.

Ambiguity in the birth years of the first four children exist, as all 4 were baptized in Jan of 1698/9; Barnabas's first wife Sarah, dead before Dec of 1692, date her fathers will, in which he mentions husband and oldest and youngest children of his deceased daughter. (Thomas and Barnabus); and year of his marriage to his 2nd wife, which is not shown, but before Jan of 1698/9 when Barnabas and his wife Mary were received at the Milford church.

Charles Baldwin, author of "Baldwin Genealogy from 1500-1881" shows a birth year for Timothy (son) in 1695; one of the four children baptized in Jan of 1698/9. Making it likely that Barnabas married Mary Botkin after 1692, but before 1695.
