James married Thankful Clark on November 8, 1736 at Canterbury, Connecticut. ^{[3] [1] [4]} His wife Thankful Thankful was born on November 8, 1736, at Norwich, Connecticut, daughter of Thomas Clark and Sarah Woodward. ^[5]

They had one child born at Canterbury:

1. Elisha Baldwin born on March 13, 1759 ^{[1] [6]}; d. 31 Dec 1835, Brutus, NY); married. 1793 Charlotte Davenport.

James died on November 9, 1761 in his 26th year at Canterbury, Connecticut Colony. ^{[1] [7]}

His widow Thankful married second Joseph Baldwin, son of Timothy and Susannah (Frost) Baldwin on June 1, 1763 at Canterbury, Connecticut. ^[1]
