The following is written by Eula's nephew, Wayne Hileman
65 years ago, there were parts of Oklahoma still without electric service...the rural area around Big Cabin comes to mind, where Aunt Eula and Uncle Rillis had there farm and a mile down the road to the old rock house that Granny and Grandpa Baldwin called home on their farm... I recall kerosene lamps that lit the dining room table and a hand pump for water in the kitchens Grandpa would go out to his old Chevy coupe and listen the ball game on that radio. Out houses were all the rage back then and meals were fixed on a nice wood fired range and oven and Granny made me a few shirts on a treadle sewing machine...that means a rocker for your feet to make the needle go up and down
I dearly loved visiting that old rock house and catching fireflies in a mason jar and red racer snakes that hung around the base of the house... Uncle Rillis taught me how to shoot squirrels and yes we ate them as well as rabbits
