He never married.
His will is dated 10 September 1776 and proved on 15 November 1776 in Danbury. He mentions his father, Ebenezer Baldwin of Norwich, his brother-in-law, Jacob Witter, his sisters, Rhoda, Bethiah, and Mary, his brothers, Oliver (and his children, Sally, Rhoda, Dorothy, and a newborn son), and Simeon. His inventory was completed on 18 November 1776 in Danbury.[1]
Graduated from Yale College in 1763. He was a favorite pupil of President Clap, and especially proficient in mathematics and kindred branches. He delivered the Latin Salutatory Address at graduation.
In 1769 he was called to the pastorate of the First Congregational Church in Danbury, CT. In August, 1776, he joined as a volunteer chaplain the militia regiment from Danbury, commanded by Colonel Joseph P. Cooke, which was active in the defense of NYC. While in the performance of his duties there, he contracted a fever that prevailed in the camp, and had only the strength sufficient to reach his parish, where he died October 1st, 1776, in his 32nt year. He was never married.[2]
