Biography

William H. Ball was living in Carroll County, Mississippi in the 1860 Census. He married Viney (Vina) Jane Cole on 7 October 1858. They had a son named William Elliott Ball living with them. William Ball enlisted in Company G, "Black Hawk Rifles", of the 22nd Mississippi regiment on 30 April 1861. He received a medical discharge on 27 March 1862 but was conscripted back into his company in September. He was one of a few who remained with this company when it surrendered in May 1865. After the war, he came home and bought a quarter section of land on 7 October 1865. This land was adjacent to the land owned by Eliza Cole, the mother of Jane. On 28 November 1874, William sold 55 acres in the southwest corner of his land to his brother-in-law, Richard Bascom Cole. William and Jane Ball sold their farm on 5 october 1878. They divorced a short time later and Jane and the five children moved to Magnet Cove, Arkansas, where Jane remarried Wiley A. Braden on 14 September 1884. William Ball, age 40, was living with James and Frances Purcell in Black Hawk, MS, in June 1880. He was considered insane and had no money. It was testified that he shot himself. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Jillaine; I have updated the info on William Ball. This data comes from the historical novel "12 April" by Gary Cole. Gary has thoroughly documented the family history with 1550 footnotes. He quotes from a source who described the end of William Ball's life, saying he was insane and committed suicide.

I'm still not familiar with WIkiTree and how to fill out their Bio info, so it doesn't look that good. But the info is there.

Steve, could you please add estimated birth years to this family so they're not confused with people by the same name? Thanks.
