Biography

Frank was born Brankie Addison Ball 6 Aug 1887 to George Washington Ball and Sarah Jane Walls in Madison County, North Carolina but sometime between the 1900 and 1910 census he started using the name Frank. My grandmother, his wife, Bessie Keener Ball, said that he hated the name Brankie. For some reason he used Frank B. (just the initial) as his name at times, but mostly just Frank. The name on his death certificate is Franklin B., and although my grandmother was the informant I think that this was done by the person taking the information.

Frank worked for a lumber company as a fireman on their railroad in Swain County, North Carolina before he moved his family to Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee where he and Bessie both worked at Standard Knitting Mill. He died 22 Mar 1937 in Knoxville of a heart attack at the age of 50 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
