"Erwin" has been maintained because his father's name was the same and he was possibly named after him. He was born on 16 Jun 1894 at Hamburg, Livingston, Michigan, United States, [1] and died on 17 Oct 1949 at Lakewood, Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States. [2] He was 55 years and 4 months of age. According to the death certificate, he died of acute passive congestion of lungs & liver; pulmonary edema; calcificaortic stenosis. A second certificate indicates that he was buried on 21 October 1949 in Hamburg Cemetery, Hamburg, Livingston, Michigan, United States [3].
He was the son of Erwin Ball (1859-1923) and Carrie E Fisk (1864-abt 1914), who had six children:
In his World War I draft papers, Leslie's employer was Harper-Overland Co. No information was found for the business, but from the name, it was possibly a transportation company. [4] His brother, Leland Herbert Ball, worked in the same company as Service Mgr in 1920 in Washington D.C., United States. [5] In the 1940 census, Leslie appears as an "Auto-Electrician" in a "Private Garage" who earned $1500 annually and who had worked 54 hours a week, 52 weeks in 1940. [6] In his death certificate his occupation is "Auto-Mechanic". [2] Veteran Discharge information appears in Leslie's Ohio Death Certificate: he served in World War I in the Army as a Private in Co. C, 6th Division, and was discharged honorably 16 April 1919. [3] His gravestone inscription gives the following information: Michigan - Corporal 6 Ammunition Train 6th Division WW I. [7] According to the Veteran's Headstone Application submitted by his brother Leland Herbert Ball on 22 May 1950, he enlisted 02 May 1918 and was a Corporal. [8] In his World War I papers, the description for Leslie is the following: short, medium build, brown hair, brown eyes, not bald, no limbs missing. [4] In his World War II draft papers, the description is much the same: brown hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, 5 ft. 1/2 in., 138 lbs. His brother Leland H Ball, in Toledo, Lucas, Ohio, United States, is given as his emergency contact in the latter. [9] Leslie appears "single" in his death certificate; no children were found for him.
