John was in a family history or pedigree on 13 April 1869 in Crockett County, Tennessee, United States.[2]
I (Brian Whitehead), have been unable to find sources to support the marriage of Mary Ballew (abt.1784-) to John Wesley Conley (1784-1869). However I do have two unsourced documents - one a document entitled 'The Conley Family of Crockett County', written by a Bruce Conley of Union City, Tennessee. The other is a (private) letter written in May 1966 by Berta Lena (Conley) Farrow (1877-1976) in which she states that her grandfather, John Wesley Conley first married Mary Ballew - 'He fell in love with and married Mary Beulew, a first cousin of his, against his family's wishes. They were so opposed to his marriage that he left his home and moved to Middle Tennessee and settled on Crippled Creek. He had several children by his marriage - Alfred, Louisa, Allen, Jack and Matilda. His wife died and he married Sally (Nichols) Conley (abt.1783-1864), a sister of Captain Nichols of Civil War fame.'
