Benedict originally appears at Westhofen, Germany prior to 1655 but there are no records of births or marriages of Baltzells in Westhofen from 1620-1655. [1].
Settled in Klingen, Alsace, (then Germany) in 1655 where both died; Benedict in 1714, and Anna in 1737 [1]
A. Dr. Frederich Krebs (Archivist at Speyer, Germany) believed the family to be of Swiss origin, coming from the section near the Rhine, the towns being "across the river from Heidelberg" however the Swiss do not have the name at Basel, but they do have Balzli and Balser.
B. The inventory made in Klingen, 20 Aug 1716, two years after Benedict's death, lists two sons; "Hans" Peter b. 1704 and "Hans" John Jacob, b. 1711. In subsequent pages, the "Hans" is dropped as the given name rsl)
C. "The Descendants of Benedict Baltzell" notes that John Jacob was the son of Benedict and his second wife. There is no reference to a first wife in the manuscript " Unpublished manuscript held by Roy S. Lamberton Pg 6
