John Bancroft of Chellaston, Derbyshire, made a will on 11 May 1557, leaving property in Chellaston and Swarkestone, Derbyshire, to his family. He named his wife Margaret, and referred to four sons (one named Ralph) and a daughter Margaret, all under 21. His mother was still living, as were his wife's parents. He made bequests to his sister Jane's children, and to Mary Bancroft and Philip Wandyll. He named his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Joyce Mee, Alice Haryngworth, Richard Walker, William Wandyll, Agnes Haryngworth, George Haryngworth, Christopher Haryngworth, Robert Mayes, Richard Haryngworth and Thomas Haryngworth. The will was proved at Lichfield on 24 January 1557/58.[1]
He died on 13 September 1557 and was buried in the church at Chellaston.[2]
