Edmund's father is Massachusetts patriot Benjamin Bancroft with his mother Anna Lawrence. [2] Edmund was born in Charlestown and removed himself to Pepperell where he married his first wife [3] and attempted to raise his family.

Marriage

On 30 Dec 1747 in Groton, Massachusetts, Edmund was united in marriage to Elizabeth Atherton. A year later they rejoiced in the birth of their child, Edmund Bancroft, and he was christened on 25 Sep 1748 in Pepperell, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[4]

Edmund was the treasurer for Pepperell and served as the Deputy for the general court and was Captain of the militia.[5]

Military - Revolutionary War

1775 Apr - There exists a Revolutionary War Muster Roll for Edmund of Pepperell of Middlesex County, Massachusetts referring to Edmund as a Sergeant. The Lexington Alarm Roll is for Capt. John Nutting Company assigned to Col. William Prescott's Regiment. On this document the unit was authorized to march 80 miles from Pepperell on 19 Apr 1775; it states he was also assigned to a Company of Minute-men.

1775 Jun - There exists a Revolutionary War Muster Roll for Edmund of Pepperell of Middlesex County, Massachusetts referring to Edmund as Captain. The specific record is dated 31 Mar 1777 and states he was receiving money for losses sustained at the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 Jun 1775. The order is signed by Joseph Shed of Capt. Asa Lawrence's Company of Col. William Prescott's Regiment.
