Disputed Origins

This profile was created as a son of John and Ann Bancroft. In John's will he named his eldest son John, and referred to his six other children, but their names are not known.

There is no documentation that a) he was the son of John and Anne (____) Bancroft. Nor is there any evidence that he existed at all. Researchers McCracken and Jacobus insist Samuel, William and Ebenezer Bancroft were fictional names.^[1] The death date previously on this profile (14 Dec 1684) is actually the death date of his supposed sister Anna (Bancroft) Griffin (abt.1627-1684).
