Biography

Scottish flag
David Barclay was born in Scotland.

Birth

David Barclay was born on 22 April 1796 and baptized on 24 April 1796 in Leslie Fife, Scotland.[1][2] On the original parish register it stated: 'James Barclay, labouring man, Pitcairn and his wife, Mary Stark had their son James 22 April 1796' (viewed document).

Marriages

James first married Margaret Ford in 1818 in Leslie, Fife.[citation needed]

Children from union between David and Margaret

He married again to Jean (Jane) Graham on 16 November 1834 in Arngask, Fife.[3]

Children

  • Michael Barclay
  • Margaret Barclay
  • Alexander Barclay
  • In the 1861 census, David (age 64), Ag Labourer, was the head of household on Back St, Leslie, Fife.[4]
  • In the 1871 census, David (age 73), Ag Lab Retired, was the head of household in Main Str, New Leslie, Leslie, Fife.[5]

Death

David died on 16 February 1878, widower of Jean Graham, aged 81 years. The death certificate stated he was the son of William Barclay & Mary Stark. The informant was his son, William. He died of Bronchopneumonia (10 days). He was buried on 19 February 1878 in Leslie, Fife.[6]

Research Notes

Interesting profile - this David is the son of a James Barclay and Mark Stark, not a William Barclay and Mark Stark. On Family Search, it is obvious that a James Barclay is his father but it comes under the umbrella of a William Barclay who married a Mark Stark in Falkland. A James Barclay was born in Leslie, Fife in September 1784. More research needs doing.Hylton-692 21:12, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Hylton-692
