In 1834, George was convicted of theft (having stolen a number of items including clothing and books from his aunt and uncle) in 1834 and received a sentence of seven years transportation. He arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales aboard "Bengal Merchant" on 30 January 1835. He received his Certificate of Freedom in Camden, NSW on 21 April 1843.
He married Johanna CORRIGAN at Yass on 10 November 1845 (Roman Catholic Church). At the time, they were living at Sandy Falls on the Murrumbidgee River, near Jugiong. They stayed in the area for about 7 years (the first four of their seven children were born there: Barbara, Mary Ann, Jane and Johanna), until moving to the Albury district in the early 1850s (where the last three children were born: Jessie, Catherine and George).
George died of influenza and hepatic congestion in Albury on 17 Jan 1898. He was buried on 18 January 1898, at the Pioneer Cemetery (oldest part of CofE section; plots 29/30; row 4; section A; Plan 1), at Albury.
