Mary was born on January 7, 1726 in Hinderwell, Yorkshire, England.[1] She was the daughter of George Barker and Sarah Carter.

Mary married George Dobson on December 19, 1745 in Marske by the Sea, Yorkshire, England. They settled in Pointe de Bute, Westmorland County, New Brunswick.
