Biography

Jesse was born on 21 Apr 1761 in Mansfield City, Tolland, Connecticut Colony. He was the son of Jesse Barker and Ann Arnold. In the 1790 census Jesse was in Duanesburgh, Albany, New York.^[1]

Jesse died on 19 March 1804 and was buried in Clarkville Cemetery, Edinburg, Saratoga County, New York, United States.^[2]

From John Austin's Barker Genealogy: "Jesse Barker, son of Jesse, was b. Mansfield CT 21 April 1761 and d. Edinburg, NY 19 March 1804. He m. Amenia, NY in April 1785 Prudence Paine, b. Amenia 3 May 1755 to Ichabod and Hanna (Boswell) Paine and d. Edinburg 26 March 1848. Jesse Barker enlisted in the Revolution from Brimfield MA in 1777, serving several enlistments until 1781 with Massachusetts troops. After the War he settled at Amenia NY, perhaps influenced by his uncle, Col. William Barker, a prominent settler there. Jesse was listed at Duanesburgh (near Schenectady NY) in 1790 and at Providence in 1800, the town from which Edinburg was eventually taken. His tombstone reads "A Pioneer of Methodism in Edinburg" and he was buried in Clark Schoolhouse Cem. there, with his wife and several descendants. Prudence survived him 44 years but never remarried and evidently resided with their son Ichabod, who may have inherited the family homestead."
