William Barker, Rev. of Berkshire[1]
William was born in 1553.[citation needed]
According to Hannibal Wheatley, the Barkers were a prominent family of Sonning, with a 300-year history there, owning the estate of Holmes Park.[1]
In the latter half of the 16th century lands here were held by Anne Barker, (fn. 58) apparently widow of William Barker of Sonning, (fn. 59) Fellow of the Middle Temple, nephew and male heir of William Barker, steward to the Bishop of Salisbury, who held a lease of part of Sonning Park and died in 1549.[2]
Unclear whether this was the ancestor of this William Barker, but Hannibal Wheatley seemed to say he belonged to this Holmes Park family.
Sir Anthony Barker (1557-1630), younger brother of William Barker, was the great-nephew of the steward of the bishop of Salisbury, who "acquired Holme Park in Sonning."[3] Whether this William Barker is identical to the older brother of Sir Anthony is unknown.
William Barker married to Annie Wheatley (b Oct 20, 1553).[1] They had many children.[1]
