Fred Barker was born in Clapham, and became an agent to an Ironworker in Yorkshire. In 1861 (aged 55) he was living at 23 Cumberland Rd, Headingley, Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Also there was 14 year old Yol.(?) Louisa Barker, who was born in Headingley, listed as his daughter(?), Rose Hildeston, housemaid, aged 19, who was born in Norton, Yorks, and Sarah Meyte, cook, aged 20, who was born in Warwick. [2] He married Mary Louisa Thomas in 1862. When he retired in 1889 he bought a house called "Gaskyns" in Rudgwick, Sussex. In 1892 he inherited £300,000 from his uncle Joseph Barker who owned a worsted mill in Yorkshire. [3]
