Thomas was born in Thames NZ in 1885. He was the son of Cadwallader Barker and Harriet Pugh. Over the term of his life he lived in Thames; 49 William St, Grey Lynn, Auck; 77 Lincoln St, Ponsonby, Auck; Beach Haven and Birkdale. He married Elsie Cutler in 1915. The couple had one child, a daughter. Thomas enlisted in the NZ Army for WWI. When he enlisted he named his wife Elsie as his next of kin. At that time they were living in Grey Lynn Auckland and he stated his occupation as plasterer. At the time of his discharge he had attained the rank of Corporal. He died in 1964 and was buried in the Birkenhead/Glenfield cemetery.
There was an explosion which hit him in the face when he worked for the council in Birkenhead. Note: This needs a citation?

They lost their house in Ponsonby.They lived at the top of Tramway Road and Fordham St and later built a house in Mayall Ave.
