Sir Abel Barker, 1st Bt. was born circa 1618.1 He was the son of Abel Barker and Elizabeth Wright.1 He married, secondly, Mary Noel, daughter of Alexander Noel.1 He married, firstly, Anne Burton, daughter of Sir Thomas Burton, 1st Bt. and Philippa Brooke, before 1648.1 He died circa August 1679.1 He was buried on 2 September 1679 at Lyndon, Rutland, England.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Rutland from 1646 to 1647.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rutland between 1656 and 1658.1 Circa 1661 he purchased the estate of Lyndon, Rutland, and built a large mansion.1 He was created 1st Baronet Barker, of Hambleton, Rutland [England] on 9 September 1665.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rutland in 1679.1 Child of Sir Abel Barker, 1st Bt. and Anne Burton Sir Thomas Barker, 2nd Bt.1 b. c 1648, d. c Mar 1706/7 Citations [S15] George Edward Cokayne, editor, The Complete Baronetage, 5 volumes (no date (c. 1900); reprint, Gloucester, U.K.: Alan Sutton Publishing, 1983), volume IV, page 23.
