Biography

John Barker was baptized on 17 Aug 1800 at St Edward the Confessor, Brotherton. He was the son of Jonathan and Ann.^[1]

He was a waterman, mastering a vessel engaged in trade on the river Ouse between Goole and Hadon.

John married in Brotherton on 8 Mar 1824 to Sarah Hargrave. ^[2]

• George, b. 28 Dec 1826, d. 23 Jan 1831
• Robert, b. 8 Aug 1829
• Frances, b. 26 Nov 1832; m. Samuel Wright
• John, b. 23 Feb 1834; m. Elizabeth Ann Schofield and lived in Goole where he died 1 Aug 1910 in Goole; 6 known children: Sarah, Robert, Annie, Albert, Frederick and Walter, and possibly two others. Only three were alive in 1911. He was a master mariner (1861-1881) and later a confectioner like his sister Frances.
