Biography

Norma was born in 1937. She is the daughter of Charles Barker and Annie Kirksey. She passed away in 1999.

Obituary[1]

Norma Ruth King, 62, of Cleveland, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in a local hospital. She was the daughter of the late Charles Arthur and Annie Kirksey Barker. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Agnes and Clay King; one brother, Roy L. Barker, and two sisters, Louise Johnson and Reba Maples.

She was a member and past president of Cleveland Pilot Club, past member of Bradley-West Polk County March of Dimes and served on the board of directors and as campaign director and past president of the Medical Assistants Association of Cleveland. She was a charter member of Maple Street Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church. She was active in children's and youth ministries at both churches.

Survivors include one daughter: Denice King of Cleveland; one brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Joyce Barker of Riceville; sister-in-law: Dorothy Barker of Atlanta and sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Joyce and Ross Disharoon of Atlanta; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackson P. Wiekel officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Daryl Barker, Charlie Barker, Greg Ellis, Michael Dorset, Larry Speight and David Watts serving as pallbearers.

The family requests that memorials be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 155 Central Ave. N.W., Cleveland, TN 37311.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
