Charles was born about 1811 in Aleppo, Syrian Ottoman Empire. He was the son of John Barker, British consul to Aleppo, and later British Consul General of Egypt and his wife Marianne Hays, daughter and step daughter of the previous consuls to Aleppo.
Charles was educated in England from about the age of 8, and joined the Royal Navy, and served in the Battle of Navarino in 1827. He worked as his father's secretary from about 1828, when his father was appointed British Consul General in Egypt, until his father's retirement in 1833.
In 1841, he married Victorine Therese Martin, also born in Aleppo, and they had a son.
In 1851 - 1855, he was living in England and his professions was artist and historical painter. [1] [2]
Charles passed away in 1873.
