I hope that any bit of information given could help us set history right! CONT I am descended from John Barlow Jr. (Pocahontas County Virginia) and Emily E. Johnson (Pocahontas County Virginia, Gallia County Ohio). CONT FACT - Emily & John left Virginia for Missouri. John died in Missouri and Emily brought her children back east, settling in Walnut Township, Gallia County Ohio. Emily is buried in Old Walnut Cemetery and I have visited her grave. My problem is Emily's family: CONT CONT KNOWN Emily E. Johnson married John Barlow Jr. 13 January 1842 in Pocahontas County, Virginia. He was probably born 1770 1775 and he died prior to 10-24-1818 because (FACT) his son William's marriage bond was signed by William's stepmother Sarah. CONT John Sharp, son of Wm. Sharp Jr and grandson of Wm. Sharp Sr., married Sarah Johnson on 6-3-1845. Sarah was the daughter of William Johnson (B 1799) who married Mary Lamb in 1818. Sarah also had a sister Susan who married Marcus Waugh. Later Marcus and Susan's daughter Mary Jane married her 1st cousin Hugh Hanson Sharp son of John and Sarah Sharp. William Johnson was the son of James Johnson & Elizabeth Hughes who married in 1795. James Johnson was the son of Pocahontas Pioneer, John Johnson (1734-1826) whose wife was thought to be a daughter of yet another famed Pocahontas Pioneer James Ewing. Ewing decendants & their allied families migrated from Pocahontas Co. in the early 1800's to Gallia Co. Ohio, where decendants are credited with establishing the towns of Vinton and Ewington. James Johnson's Ewing wife died relatively young, leaving him with seven children. James employed Elizabeth Auldridge as a governess to care for his children and later they were married. Elizabeth was a widow who came to America with her 10 yr. old son, William Tilson Auldridge, with John Johnson having advertised and paid for their passage. Most Auldridges in Pocahontas Co. can trace their ancestry to William T. Auldridge. Elizabeth lived to be 114 yrs. old and was buried in an old cemetry on Jerico Road (believed to be where the old rock quarry is located). Ewing decendants & their allied families migrated from Pocahontas Co. in the early 1800's to Gallia Co. Ohio, where decendants are credited with establishing the towns of Vinton and Ewington. James Johnson's Ewing wife died relatively young, leaving him with seven children. James employed Elizabeth Auldridge as a governess to care for his children and later they were married. Elizabeth was a widow who came to America with her 10 yr. old son, William Tilson Auldridge, with John Johnson having advertised and paid for their passage. Most Auldridges in Pocahontas Co. can trace their ancestry to William T. Auldridge. Elizabeth lived to be 114 yrs. old and was buried in an old cemetry on Jerico Road (believed to be where the old rock quarry is located). She was born September 16, 1821 in VA, and died May 12, 1893 in Gallia Co OH; Walnut twp.;. CONT CONT Notes for John J. Barlow: CONT CONT The marriage record for John Barlow was found in Vol 1 page 28 Pocahontas. Co. and her name was E. Johnson. After their marriage John and Emily remained near Red Lick Mountain. John Sr. gave John Jr. 72 acres of land on Stony Creek in Pocahontas County Virgiania in December 1847. Again referring to land records in Pocahontas County, on August 10 1852 John and Emily sold the same 72 acres to his brother Amos Barlow. Family tradition says that John had a lung problem and he thought his health would improve if he left the mountains. We think his brother William went with them. (Not proven) CONT CONT Their destination was Schuyler County Missouri. We have no idea why this area was chosen as their new home. Again family has repeated the story that John had decided to become a Methodist Minister. He was assigned his first Church in the Missouri Methodist Conference. However, before he fulfill his duties he died of typhoid fever. He was only 38 years old. He left his widow and six children. Note:2002 According to census reports in Ohio James the youngest child was born in 1854. This indicates the death date is incorrect.
