Biography
Mary (Carlton) Bowan was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.
Mary Carlton was born in 1845 in Worsall, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England to a single mother, Charlotte Carlton, and an unknown father.[1] She was christened on 22 Jun 1845 in Kirk Leavington, Yorkshire, England.[2][3][4]
In 1851 she was age 5 and living with her mother Sharlotta, her stepfather John Mitchinson, and her half-sister Jane age 2.[5]
In 1861 she was age 15 and living in Stokesley, Ingleby Arncliffe, Yorkshire, England with the family of William Garbutt, working as their servant. [6]
She married firstly Thomas Barlow on 14 Oct 1866 in Middlesborough, Yorkshire, England.[7]
Children: Thomas, John, Elizabeth Ann, Mary Jane, Sarah.
In 1871 she was age 27 and living in Stockton, County Durham, England with her husband, Thomas Barlow, and sons Thomas and John.[8]
In 1881 she was age 33 and living in Stockton on Tees, County Durham, England with her husband Thomas and her children Thomas, Mary Jane, Elizabeth Ann, and Sarah.[9]
After her husband Thomas died in 1881, she married secondly William Seddon in 1883 Sep Quarter in Stockton on Tees, County Durham, England.
Children: Mark, Annie.
In 1891 she was age 46 and living at 7 Milton Street in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England with her husband WIlliam age 50 and children Mary Jane, Elizabeth Ann, Mark, and Annie.[10]
In 1901 she was living at 7 Milton Street in Stockton on Tees, St John the Baptist Parish, County Durham, England, listed as the wife of Thomas Bowan age 65, with son Mark Seddon age 16.[11]
In 1911 she was living at 7 Milton Street in Stockton on Tees, County Durham, England. She was a widow.[12]
She died aged 73 in 1918 in Stockton, Durham, England.[13]

Unknown-514663 and Carlton-3344 appear to represent the same person because: Mary Bowan was living at 7 Milton Street in 1901. Mary Seddon was living at this exact address in 1891 and in 1911. In the 1901 census, Mark Seddon--Mary Seddon's son--is listed as the step-son of Thomas Bowan. I think that Mary Bowan and Mary Seddon must be the same person; I can't find a record of her marrying Thomas Bowan, but she may have only been his commonlaw wife.
