Vera is the daughter of Joseph Jackson "Joe" Barlow and Mattie (Davis) Barlow. Joe died in 1922 in Dubbs, Tunica Co., Mississippi. Mattie died on 17 Jul 1970 in Oxford, Lafayette Co., Mississippi, and is supposed to be buried in Tula. Vera had 9 siblings.

Died: Sunday, February 4, 2001

Mrs. Vera Irene Aven, 98, of Memphis, Tenn., died February 4, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was a homemaker.

Services were held on Tues., Feb. 6 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.

Mrs. Aven is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alpha Underwood and Mrs. Mattie Gilles, both of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Evert Barlow of Tula, Miss.; three sisters, Eura Parker and Leona Brown of Tula, Miss., and Flossie Reid of Memphis, Tenn.; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
