Research Notes

Jacobus' entire entry for Elizabeth in the list of Barlow children reads "Elizabeth, d 1686, m Daniel Frost" (p 28, Families of Old Fairfield). His entry for Daniel Frost states he was first married to ___________ and second to Elizabeth Barlow. (p 211 Families of Old Fairfield). Children by Elizabeth: Sarah, Daniel, Joseph, Rachel, Hannah, Issac and Esther (presumably in what Jacobus believed was a date order but absent any birth dates--no records exist--though he gives the marriage of first daughter Sara as 1665 to Wm Smith. Rebecca currently seen above is the daughter of the first marriage, not of Elizabeth.[4]

Dale Kellogg citing Jacobus above, writes the marriage year "in all probability indicates a birth for her somewhat before 1650." This is followed by discussion of another marriage and how the two give the probable birth year for Elizabeth of 1628-1630. In his summary, he uses the year 1628 for the birth of Elizabeth (Barlow) Frost.[5]

PGM Project: I propose the estimated year of birth be changed to 1628 per the 1992 research of Dale Kellogg cited below as well as the year of marriage changed to about 1627. The quite early birth year of 1622 seems to have originated by working backward from a birth record in Lancashire believed to be that of another child though there was no connection between that birth record and any Barlow offspring.

There is also the question of her marriage date to Daniel. If Elizabeth was born that late, she could not have married Daniel in 1639, nor been the mother of the oldest child(ren). More research needs to be done on this...

I will double check this but there are no records in this period for this location other than incomplete land records. Either Kellogg or Jacobus gives a succinct list of what records simply do not exist. This profile would appear to cite Jacobus for a 1639 marriage but he in fact gives no date and I assume the dates of the children are also guesses but will see if there is any credible dating.

When you find that list, could you post it? I'm trying to collect info to put together a general list of missing records for New England. Thanks!

I believe the year of birth found here needs scrutiny. The sister Isabella is still shown as born in Lancashire though any connection of the parents to Lancashire has never been proven. That place is used to place the birth of Isabella in 1628 thru a birth record that cannot be shown to be that of this Isabella. If that date and place were correct, what places the birth of Elizabeth in 1622?

Dale Kellogg, FOGS, (Connecticut Nutmegger 25:549 | Subscription link https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/connecticut-nutmegger/image?volumeId=11796&pageName=549) in a detailed examination of known evidence suggests a year of birth for Ann 1630-32; Elizabeth 1628-30; John 1644; Martha 1640; Deborah 1631-32; Isabella 1638-39; Ruth 1645-48. Kellogg concludes the marriage of John Barlow and Ann was about 1627 with Elizabeth as the first child born 1628.

Thanks Larry, I've removed it from the source list as it was simply an old "Pedigree Resource" file.

Barlow-738 and Barlow-83 appear to represent the same person because: Part of the recent creation of a duplicate Frost family; same vitals; please merge. Thank you.
