DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Reuben by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Reuben:

Chris Barnes should be considered the authority on this and he state in an email to me today: There seems to be three Reuben’s that lived all about the same time that are highly confused by genealogists.

Here is what I currently believe:

A- Reuben Barnes – brother of Solomon, son of Thomas Barnes & Pleasant Kirtley, b1753 in Hampton, VA, married to Isabell Greer

B- Reuben Barnes – son of Solomon & Elizabeth Isbell Murphree, b1788 in Wilkes, married to Isabell Teague

C- Reuben Barnes – son of Henry Barnes & Jemima Sholar, b1781 in Tyrell NC, married to Nancy Martin in Bertie, NC

Ingmire, Frances, Marriage Records of Wilkes County, NC 1779-1868 reports NO marriages for a Reuben Barnes. There is a marriage bond in Bertie County for a Reuben and a Nancy Martin for that exact date. Bertie is nearly 300 miles away and this most likely a different Reuben. Additionally, the Census of 1850 in both Burke and Caldwell record no Reubens.
