Stephen was born in 1667. He passed away after 1711.[1]
Stephen was the son of William Barnes of East Hampton, where he was by 5 July 1653 when allotted land.
He married Mary Barnes, daughter of John Barnes and Hannah Linsley.
Stephen was a member of a church in Branford, Connecticut in 1711, where his youngest four children were born.[2]
Children
Their first three children were recorded at East Hampton; the others at Branford, CT, suggesting that they removed to Connecticut from Long Island about 1701.

Research Notes
While an 1875 history of Southington, CT, could not place his origins:
"Stephen Barnes (date and place of birth unknown) married Mary _____. Tradition says that he or his ancestors came from Long Island to Branford, Conn. [6]
A 1970 article by Jacobus includes an extensive study of the Barnes families of Long Island and Branford, including identification of Stephen Barnes' origins.[7]
Parents

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Stephen by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Stephen:
Barnes-5098 and Barnes-3968 appear to represent the same person because: Both Stephens are the child of William and Elizabeth. Both married Mary Barnes, daughter of Hannah Linsley.
