Robert Barnes, the second son of Chesley Barnes and Mary Polly Means, was born in 1784 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Little is known of Robert Barnes but it is believed that he married Katherine Lewis sometime before 1804. He is found in the 1820 US Federal Census[1][1], enumerated in Rockingham, North Carolina on August 7, 1820, and again in the North Carolina 1812-1814 Muster Rolls, in the Third Company of the Rockingham County Regiment.[2]
