Biography

Harrietta Barnes was the posthumous child of her father Harry and was named for him.

She was living with her grandfather Merritt in 1870. Listed on the census as 17 yrs and a schoolteacher.^[1]

The 1900 census gives her dob as April 1853, :

Research Notes

The 1900 census gives her dob as Apr 1853. My mother , her granddaughter, always said Harrietta was a posthumous child. Her father Harry died in Sep 1853 . It also misspells her name and states she had nine children, five living. Only four are listed.

The 1930 census, above, states she was 23 when she married, which would indicate it was c 1876, presumably in Connecticut.
