Note: Walter J. Barnhardt Jr. 75, of Irish Potato Road died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Big Elm Nursing Center. Funeral service will be 11a.m. Thursday at Cold Springs United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Mary Hatley; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Barnhardt family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. Mr. Barnhardt was born Sept. 15, 1933 in Cabarrus County, son of the late Walter J. Barnhardt Sr. and Carrie Elizabeth Blackwelder Barnhardt. He was a retired truck driver for Overnite Transportation after retirement he was the dog catcher for the City of Concord. He enjoyed his time at the beach, riding his golf cart and mowing yards. He was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Iris Smith Barnhardt; two sons, Ronnie Barnhardt and wife, Jamie, of Mount Gilead and David Barnhardt and wife, Sherrie, of Concord; brother, James Thomas Barnhardt of Concord; sisters, Agnes Trombello and Cecila Aube both of Concord; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials should be directed to Cold Springs United Methodist Church, Building or Cemetery Fund, 2550 Cold Springs Rd., Concord, NC 28025
