Jacob Bartholomew, JR served in the Revolutionary War along side his father, Jacob Bartholomew, SR. There were a total of 8 members of the Bartholomew families that were named in the List of Soldiers in the Revolutionary War. Abraham Bartholomew with 3 members, Jacob Bartholomew with 2 members, and Gaylord Bartholomew with 3 members. Gideon Roberts and Jacob Bartholomew (SR) were captured and captive on the famous British prison ships.

On the 27th of January 1790 Jacob Bartholomew, JR married Miss Rebeckah Beach1767–1813 in Bristol, Hartford, Connecticut. Rebeckah was the daughter of Barnius Beach 1737–1776 and his wife, Chloe PALMER 1740–

Jacob Bartholomew was elected Town Treasurer on the 13th of June, 1785 (so that the treasury department of the new town was at the Tavern about half way between the two settlements). In 1795, Jacob Bartholomew owned a Tavern on the North side of town. The Bartholomew House was a tavern of the modest sort on the East side of the highway which is now Burlington Avenue. In those days, a Tavern was a place of entertainment for travelers - to rent a room, have dinner, a drink, and a stable room for two horses for a modest fee.

On Page 84 (which gives page 67, volume one) the Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812, we can find our Jacob listed as CAPTAIN (Company Unknown): Roll of CAPTAIN JACOB BARTHOLOMEW'S COMPANY: Corporal Daniel Bartholomew and Fifer: Benjamin Bartholomew. Privates: Samuel Bartholomew, Abraham Bartholomew, John B. Bartholomew, and Isaac Bartholomew are listed.

On the 19th of December 1843, Jacob Bartholomew died at the age of 75 years. We can find the location of Jacob Bartholomew's burial thanks to the Index to the Grave Records of Soldiers of the War of 1812 buried in Ohio. On page eight it states that PVT Jacob Bartholomew was buried at the Hillside Cemetery located in West Farmington, Trumbull County, Ohio. However, this source states that Jacob Bartholomew was a Private, while the Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812 specifically gives his rank as Captain on page 84.
