Jacob Bartholomew, SR was born on the 9th of January 1736 in Branford, New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Abraham Bartholomew 1708-1798 and his wife, Hannah PAGE Bartholomew 1713-1770.

On the 10th of September 1761 Jacob Bartholomew SR married Sarah Gridley 1738-1801 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut. Sarah was the daughter of Hezekiah Gridley 1701–1776 and his wife, Sarah NEWELL 1707–1796.

Jacob Bartholomew, SR was one of the Connecticut soldiers who served in the French and Indian War in 1755-1762. According to their payroll list, Jacob SR, whose rank was listed as Drum, was in the 2nd Regiment under Colonel & Captain Nathan Whiting and also in the 9th Company commanded by Captain Archibald McNiel.

In 1762, Jacob Bartholomew, SR served in the Revolutionary War under Captain Archibald McNeile's Company, in the 2nd Regiment of Connecticut Forces. According to the NSDAR Lineage Book, Volume 117:1915 on page 292 listed under Mrs. Clara Lucas DAR#116927 (also DAR #71446) it states: Jacob Bartholomew 1736-1805 was a Private in Colonel Huntington's Regiment until taken Prisoner and confined on a Prison Ship.

According to the Connecticut Church Record Abstracts, Jacob Bartholomew, SR died on the 29th of October 1805 in Bristol, Connecticut. Jacob SR was buried at the Old North Burying Grounds located in Bristol, Hartford County, Connecticut. His wife, Sarah GRIDLEY Bartholomew who died on the 19th of April 1801 at age 62 is buried there also.
