George Sherman Bartholomew was born was born September 4,1843 at Sterling Run, Cameron, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Wendel Bartholomew and Catherine S. Schaffer.
George moved west with his parents in 1849 ending up at Beaver Dam, Dodge, Wisconsin where they remained until relocating to Dodge county, Minnesota in 1857.
George enlisted on January 28, 1862 in Company H of the 5th Minnesota Infantry. He was involved in a number of battles and was a prisoner of war at the infamous Andersonville prison. He survived and was mustered out of the Army on August 19, 1865 with an Honorable Discharge.
On March 8, 1866 George married Elsie Anne Barfield, the daughter of George William Burfield and Eliza Schaffer Burfield, the marriage taking place at Mantorville, Dodge, Minnesota. Six children were born to this couple.
The George Bartholomew family can be found at Alberta, Benton co., Minnesota in 1870, and in 1875 they relocated to Concord in Dodge, Minnesota. George remained in Dodge county in either Concord or West Concord until the last few years of his life, mainly occupied in farming.
George Sherman Bartholomew died on June 4, 1909 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota and is buried in the Concord Cemetery, Dodge, Minnesota.

George Bartholomew's Death The remains of George Bartholomew were brought here from Minneapolis, on Saturday evening, and the funeral held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Chas. Firth conducting the service. For many years Mr. Bartholomew was a resident of West Concord, removing from here to Minneapolis several years ago. Geo. S. Bartholomew born Sept. 4, 1843, at Sterling Run, Cameron Co., Penn. Came to Minnesota in 1857. He joined the Federal Army Jan. 28, 1862 having enlisted in the 5th Minnesota Regiment, Co. H., and served until Aug. 19, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He was married March 8, 1866 to Elsie Burfield. Six children were born to them, four daughters and two sons, one son having died in infancy. He is survived by a wife and five children, Eliza McCormick, of Minneapolis; Minnie Schlief, of West Concord; Robert Bartholomew, of Ellington; Inez Parkins and Alzada Parkins, both of Minneapolis and 23 grand children.
