Biography

Mary (Bartholomew) Bell came free to the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

Mary Bartholomew was born in 1800. About 1829 she married John Moyser Newstead. On April 7th 1833, Mary, by then a widower, married George Bell in Parish of Christ Church in the county of Middlesex, England. Following the death of George in 1848, Mary and three of her children, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Ann and Preston Thomas, migrated to Australia on board the "Sophia Moffat" reaching Adelaide in December 1850.

Evidently Mary did not remarry in Australia. Her name was still Mary Bell when she died in 1872, in Adelaide.
