James enlisted on March 18, 1862, in the Tippah Farmers at Orizaba under Capt. Granville A. Woods. The company subsequently became Co. H, 34th Infantry. James K. achieved the rank of Sergeant and was captured on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, on 24 Nov 1863.[2]
He served on the Board of Supervisors in Tippah Co. District 4 from Jan 1882 - Jan 1884 and was killed by a tornado April 29, 1920 in Tippah County.
