Marjorie was a good person, helpful and cheerful and friendly throughout her life. She grew up going to church and did so most of her life, especially in her last ten years after joining the LDS in Cortland, NY. She enjoyed teaching the younger sisters at church her homemaking skills.

She loved to cook and sew and garden. Several flower gardens dotted her lawn. She made clothes for her sons and grandchildren. She was also an avid Granger from youth until she passed. She served her local Grange as Treasurer for at least 26 years.

She was a clerk and typist at her jobs. During the World War II years, she worked for the Department of the Navy for a year or two, until she got married. Later on, she worked about 25 years as a clerk and general worker at the local Chronicle Guidance Publications research and publishing plant in Moravia, NY. They researched and wrote up many materials to help people learn how to get educated and started in hundreds of occupations. That kind of thing is now online, but back in the 1950s - 80s, the materials were all written and published on their own presses. Today the building is used for other purposes in the community.

She was always helpful and seemed to accept people as they were, so I would expect she would have been accepting of my later life after coming out, especially in the careful way I have lived it, how I have kept my job till retirement and have done so much to look up the family history.

After she passed away, about six months later, I spoke with her in a nighttime dream, where she told me she was happy and cured of her cancer. That dream cured my sorrow of her passing.

(I have heard that to look at these Facebook photos requires being a "friend" of mine to pass the security walls on Facebook, so if you wish to be friended to see them, just send me a friend request and note on my FB page. I decided this was easier than uploading many pics to this place. I have hundreds of photos in albums on Facebook. Sorry for that inconvenience. I didn't want to just give my photos to this website. -LF)

Neil Fay and Marjorie Bartlett were married on June 27, 1943, in Homer, New York, at the Bartlett farm on the Scott Road, now called NYS Route 41, I got the date from her Birthday Book she kept, which also has many wedding dates in it. To verify the date, I looked on the NY State Marriage Index, but they were not listed. So, I emailed the Town Clerk in Homer and asked if they were in the town records. The Clerk said their marriage license was filed in the Homer books, but I guess it didn't get reported to the state. I also asked the Homer Congregational Church if it was in their records and eventually she said it was not listed, but both Neil and Marjorie's memberships were listed when they joined in the 1930s, but the marriage was not. So I assume the JP or some other town official did their marriage. From the Town Clerk:

Good Morning Loren, I investigated this, this morning and we do have your parents’ marriage license in the Town of Homer Marriage license record book. Please let me know if you need any further. Kindly Acknowledge Receipt, Thank you, Heather M. Hill Town Clerk 31 North Main St. Homer, NY 13077

Today I am enjoying some cottage cheese and this brought back memories of Mom making cottage cheese... my brother was a dairy farmer and one day the milk cooler went off and the milk spoiled. In true farm style, before dumping the bad milk, mom saved enough to make a batch of cottage cheese. At other times, she saved the cream from the top of the milk from the farm. Eventually there was enough to make a batch of homemade butter. She had an electric churn and it worked nicely to make a batch of nice butter. At that point one could choose to make the butter as salty or sweet butter, simply by adding salt or not adding salt... Now days, after some high blood pressure problems, I like sweet butter, as it is best for my health.
