Biography

I think i remember Aunt Vera leaving her clocks the same and just going early or later, depending on the time of year.

A cousin says Aunt Vera's health tip is "Stay away from the doctor!" I guess just go when you have to is old wisdom.

Vera studied bookkeeping and followed this work all her life. She acted as a treasurer at her church and her Grange in Homer, Cortland, NY, USA.

She was active like many of the rural people of those days in the Grange:

Homer Grange Has Elected Officers (Homer Post newspaper 1943) Homer, Nov. 18, 1943—Homer Grange held an annual meeting last week and elected the following officers to serve for the coming year: Master—Hiram Marquis. Overseer—Malcolm Dever. Assistant steward — Lawrence Perry. Steward—Rieharti Langdon. Chaplain—Rev. Leonard Hackney Lecturer—Mrs. Fred Fairbanks Ceres—Mrs. Durwood Potter. Pomona—Mrs. Leo Miller. Flora—Mrs. William Shanahan. Lady assistant—Mrs. Lawrence Perry. Secretary—Vera Bartlett. Treasurer—Mrs. Elmer Frazier. Gatekeeper—Lynn Bartlett. Executive committee — Everett Crampton. Trustee—Howard Holl. The next meeting will be an open meeting with a Thanksgiving supper being served.

Cortland Standard, Sept 1952 Homer Grange Officers Elected...

RE-ELECT ROBERT JONES HOMER GRANGE MASTER SCOTT ROAD — Homer Grange I SLxecentljt held its annual election of officers and chose Robert Jones to serve as master for another year. These officers also were named: Byron Dever, overseer; Mrs. Byron Dever, lecturer; Mrs. Everett Crampton, ' chaplain; Miss Vera Bartlett, secretary; Mrs. Fay Simmons, treasurer; Gerald Wright, assistant steward; Miss Marjorie Farnham, lady assistant steward; Eugene Wright, gate keeper; Frances Potter, Ceres; Doris Baldwin, Pomona; Grace Downing, Flora; William Fairbanks, member of the executive committee for three years. The Juvenile Grange elected these officers recently; Mary Jane Dever, master; Mrs. Eugene Wright, matron; Francis Crampton, overseer; Doris Forbes, lecturer; Robert Call, steward; Allen Perry, assistant steward; James Button, chaplain; Nancy Dever, secretary-treasurer; Dean Potter, gate keeper; Georgia Jones, Ceres; Bonnie Baldwin. Pomona; Connie Potter, lady assistant steward; Richard Baldwin, flag bearer.

It would not surprise me if she served as treasurer from the 1940s till the Homer Grange closed. I think it closed in the 1990s or early 2000s.

She is the daughter of Fred Bartlett and Anna Peacock. [1]
