Biography

Thankfull Bartlett married Jonathan Weller December 20, 1733 at New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut.[1]

She married second Joseph Seeley July 28, 1735 at New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut. [2]

Their children were Martha Seeley, Martha Seeley, Abner Seeley and Margrit Seeley.

Research Notes

Orcutt names two daughters of Isaiah Bartlet, who was in New Milford by 1711, Thankful and Mindwell, but notes, “whether these two women were daughters of Isaiah is uncertain.”[3]

Josiah Bartlett (bef.1684-bef.1744) and Obedience (Merritt) Bartlett (1685-) are not likely to be Mindwell's parents. Josiah's will does not mention Mindwell or her sister and there is no evidence that Josiah traveled to the Lichfield Hills[4]

Bob, can you now do an uncertain for parents of Thankfull Bartlett Seeley?

If we had a birth record for Thankfull and her sister Mindwell, would tell us so much more and we could get rid of the 'uncertain' and put the correct parents.

Per the New Milford, CT records, it appears that Thankfull and Mindwell were the daughters of Isaiah Bartlett of New Milford, CT and had no relationship with Josiah Bartlett of Essex Co., MA.

Maybe we can use G2G to straighten all this out?

Thanks so much.

I changed the confidence to uncertain for the parentage of Mindwell and Thankfull as suggested by Linda Alcott Maples and others.

I propose that Isaiah Bartlett (Bartlett-889) of Windsor is the father of Thankful and Mindwell Bartlett of New Milford. Isaiah's birth is here: https://archive.org/details/historygenealogi02stil/page/60/mode/2up. He is described as one of the original 12 settlers of New Milford https://archive.org/details/historytownsnew00orcugoog/page/30/mode/2up?q=Bartlett although his origin is uncertain, he matches the regional profile of the other original settlers who came from the Connecticut and Farmington river valleys. The history of New Milford goes on to suggest that Thankful and Mindwell are his daughters https://archive.org/details/historytownsnew00orcugoog/page/785/mode/2up?q=Bartlett and https://archive.org/details/historytownsnew00orcugoog/page/n866/mode/2up?q=Bartlett and in the last citation Isaiah is referred to as Josiah which may be the origin of the idea that Thankful is the daughter of another Josiah Bartlett.

Ancestry and FamilySearch indicate that Jonathan Weller died in 1733. https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=1063&h=186594&ssrc=pt&tid=120931012&pid=262054572201&usePUB=true

His probate was in 1734 as documented in https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/984442:9049. I haven't looked at the will of Josiah Bartlett.

Jonathan Weller died in 1744, so why would the Thankful Bartlet who married him be the one who married Joseph Seeley in 1735. Also Josiah Bartlett left a will mentioning "my two daughters...Mary Peal and Elizabeth Yeel”, so why is he preferred as the father of Thankful over Isaiah Bartlet?
