Captain Thomas Bartlett served with Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Thomas Bartlett was a Virginia colonist.

Thomas Bartlett may have been born in 1733 in St. George Parish, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, but this needs to be confirmed with primary sources or reliable secondary sources. He was the son of William Bartlett and Susannah Davis.^[1] He married Mary Foster of Spotsylvania County, probably around 1755.^[2]

Captain Thomas Bartlett served during the Revolutionary War in the militia of Spotsylvania County, Virginia.^[3] In 1780 Capt. Thomas Bartlett was the Inspector at Fredericksburg Warehouse.^{[citation needed]}

On 21 September 1780, John Hazelgrove wrote his will in Fredericksburg. He named executors as Richard Young and "Capt. Thomas Bartlett". (See: Note 1)

Thomas & Mary lived on Glen's Creek in Woodford County, Kentucky.^{[citation needed]} About 1800, Thomas & Mary and their family removed to Henry County, Kentucky.^[4] He died in 1817 in Henry County.^[5]

Will of Thomas Bartlett

In the name of God Amen. I Thomas BARTLETT of the County of Henry, State of Kentucky, being at the signing hereof of sound mind, but of infirm health, and believing that by the course of nature, must shortly depart this life, and wishing first to dispose of temporal concerns after recommending my soul to God who gave it, do hereby make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all and every former Will and Testament heretofore made in manner following (To-Wit):

Item: At my decease I give, devise and bequeath to my son Harry BARTLETT the first choice of all my slaves whether male or female as he may wish.

Item: I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Huldah BARTLETT, alias Haldy favours? whatsoever my my [written twice] Exers herein appointed may think proper, leaving the same to their consideration and sound discretion.

Item: I give, devise, and bequeath to Anthony BARTLETT, Edmund BARTLETT and James BARTLETT jointly one negro girl by the name of Harriett, one feather bed and furniture, one gray horse and saddle, five head of cattle, and two chests, to be held by them in trust for my Grand Daughter Polly BRYAN, late Polly JACKSON, hereby vesting the right and title of the same property in the said Anthony, Edmund and James for the use and benefit of the said Polly BRYAN and the heirs of her body legally begotten. And if the said Polly BRYAN shall die without issue so begotten, then I will and direct that the said property shall be equally divided amongst my own children together with one equal part of my son Foster BARTLETT’s, Deceased, children jointly. Nevertheless, it is my will and do direct that my said Grand Daughter Polly BRYAN or her heirs so as aforesaid legally begotten as long a she or they may live to keep possession of the said property to her or their use and benefit.

Item: After all my just debts are paid and fully satisfied I give and bequeath the remainder of my estate, real and personal, not heretofore devised, to my children in equal proportions, including the children of my late son, Foster BARTLETT, collectively giving them jointly an equal share.

And lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my sons Anthony BARTLETT, Edmund BARTLETT and James BARTLETT the sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby ratifying and confirming the same to all legal intents and purposes. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 6 day of September 1816.
