James was born in 1809. He was the son of Nathan Bartlett and Peggy Hunter. James Bartlett was the first sheriff of Putnam County, Tennessee (founded February 11, 1854). He passed away in 1885, and was buried at Bartlett Graveyard, Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee.[1]
