John Clarence and his twin brother Dewery Lawrence Bartlett were born in 1918, the sons of Lawrence Bartlett and Nancy Holman. John Clarence passed away in 2006, and was buried at Cookeville City Cemetery, Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee.[1]

Obituary

COOKEVILLE Funeral services for John Clarence Bartlett, 88, of the Dry Valley Community, will be held Sunday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Cookeville City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 30, from 5-8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 31, from 12 noon until time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Bartlett died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1918, in Putnam County to the late John Lawrence Bartlett and Nancy Lou Holman Bartlett McCaleb.

Mr. Bartlett was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Cookeville and through the Putnam County Department of Education he taught Vocational Agriculture to World War II veterans. Mr. Bartlett was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School for a number of years.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Dry Valley Community. Mr. Bartlett opened the first Farm Bureau office in Cookeville and was associated with it for over 32 years. Later, he joined the Legge Insurance Agency and worked until his retirement. Mr. Bartlett was active in many community and civic affairs. In the early 1950's he helped organize and served as president of the Dry Valley Community Club. He was also a member of the American Angus Association since 1950. Mr. Bartlett served many years on the Putnam County Fair Board and was a member of American Legion Post 46 as well as a member, past president (1968-1969) and Paul Harris Fellow with the Cookeville Noon Day Rotary Club. He married his wife of over 60 years, Evelyn Mitchell Bartlett of Cookeville, on Mar. 23, 1946, in Clovis, N.M.

In addition to his wife, his family includes a son and daughterinlaw, John and Carol Bartlett of Cookeville; two sistersinlaw, Judy Bartlett of Algood and Elise Hicks of Mt. Juliet; a brother and sisterinlaw, Sam and Bobbie Mitchell of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bartlett was preceded in death by a twin brother, Dewey Lawrence Bartlett.
