Note H40
Note N39was a "cripple" and died at a young age. (from Patrick Flood)
In email from Kathy Bartley Boutilier on Jan 23, 2002 -" In my notes from Gertrude I have copies from 3 newspapers re death of Michael S. Bartley. Apparently it was newsworthy and essentially states - Young man of much promise passes away after a four weeks illness with Typhoid Malaria. - According to the newspaper, Michael passed away in the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. P.S.Bartley. No 52 Thorp St. He had been a night operator at the Erie Depot in Great Bend until he secured a position at the Binghamton Erie Depot, nine months before he died on Feb 12, 1901. The article goes on to state that he was a young man who thought of others before himself, was always looking to the comfort of others, and when anyone was in need, he always responded generously. He was popular with young and old. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Great Bend, and had been elected to the position of Grand Knight. It goes on to say many other complimentary things about Michael. In addition it is mentioned that the family had moved to Binghamton from Susquehanna 15 years prior to his death."
