Biography

Elesha Basye (aka Elisha) was the daughter of Edmund Basye and Eliza Taylor. Elesha Basye was named in her father's 1714 will and also in the will of her brother Elizamond Basye which was made in 1756.[1]

She was still unmarried in 1756 when she was identified as "my sister Elesa Basye" and appointed as one of the two executors in her brother Elizamond's will.[2]

Elesha made her own will on 2 April 1756 in Northumberland County, still identifying herself as "Elesha Basye of the County of Northumberland in Wicomen Parish," and presumably still unmarried. She makes gifts to her brother John and nephew Jesse, and mentions no husband or children.[1][3]

She died before this will was proven in Northumberland County on 12 September 1768. The docket entry in the probate court file still identifies her as "Elesha Basye," indicating that she likely never married or had children.

Research Notes

Disputed Spouse

As reflected above, the documentary record indicates that Elesha Basye never married or had children. A previous version of this profile identified Alexander Love or Alexander Love as her spouse, and Hannah (Love) Austin, Amos Love, John Matthew Love), and/or Judith (Love) Greene as her children, none citing any reliable sources for the claims. His supposed connection to Alexander Love appears to be based on an erroneous speculation by researcher Cliff Love, as explained on this collaboration page on FamilySearch.

Those disputed spouses and children have been detached from her profile.

Basye-397 and Basye-20 appear to represent the same person because: Although she is the daughter of Edmond Basye, Sr. it is doubtful that she ever married. Please see sources in Basye-397 and here: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89062852876&view=1up&seq=173&q1=167

Hi Michael,

Could you find the time to post sources for the profiles you created, Love-6503 and Basye-397. There are questions about the claimed Saponia heritage of their daughter Hannah Honor (Love) Austin, and your sources should help clear this up. Hannah's FamilySearch "profile" is fraught with errors, so hopefully you can provide a reliable source to help us review this issue.

Thanks for any help!

Does any one have proof of this marriage(Love-2354 and Bayse-16,) other than other's trees? I was looking into the Bayse side and they have her as never married.

Elishe Bayse born in 1682 could not have married in 1680.

Basye-27 and Basye-20 appear to represent the same person because: 8th child of edmond and eliza basye-http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?idwu.89062852876;view1up;seq=173
Basye-20 and Basye-113 appear to represent the same person because: According to the Basye book we have a death date but no birth date. Can we merge with just the death date for now?

" Elesha Basye (See under B.8) who died in 1768, in Northumberland County, Virginia. Order Book No. 3, 1755-1757, page 71 (May 24, 1756), "

I assume you mean the death dates are off, not birth dates. It is probable that 51 has a typo death date, it should be 1668, as she was not married that would imply a possible childhood death. Merging her into 27 will remove another unsourced and wrong profile from wikitree and improve the quality of data.

Basye-51 and Basye-27 are not ready to be merged because: The birth dates are way off. Need to have some confirmation of year.
